Ecological Responsibility & Natural Habitat Protection Policy
Policy Statement
Journey Morocco recognizes that Morocco’s natural environments form part of the country’s national heritage. We operate in ecologically sensitive landscapes, including deserts, oases, mountain ranges, forests, and coastal zones, where unmanaged or improperly conducted tourism activity can result in long-term environmental harm.
This policy establishes Journey Morocco’s mandatory framework for environmental protection, governing itinerary design, operational conduct, and partner selection. Its purpose is to ensure that activities conducted under Journey Morocco’s auspices do not result in habitat degradation, resource depletion, pollution, or ecological damage.
Environmental protection is treated as an operational requirement. Compliance with this policy is enforced through planning controls, partner oversight, guide authority, and corrective action where necessary. No itinerary, activity, or guest preference may override these standards.
1. Purpose and Scope
This policy establishes the standards by which Journey Morocco minimizes environmental impact, protects natural habitats, and ensures that tourism activities do not degrade the ecological systems upon which Morocco’s cultural and natural heritage depend.
This policy applies to:
-
All Journey Morocco itineraries and experiences
-
All employees, guides, and operational staff
-
All Destination Management Companies (DMCs), transport providers, accommodations, and activity operators
-
All natural, rural, coastal, desert, and mountain environments in which Journey Morocco operates
Compliance with this policy is a condition of engagement and continued partnership.
2. Environmental Stewardship Principles
Journey Morocco operates under the following environmental principles:
-
Natural habitats must not be degraded for guest access or convenience
-
Tourism activity must not alter wildlife behavior, vegetation patterns, or land stability
-
Environmental protection takes precedence over itinerary design and guest preference
-
Conservation responsibilities extend to all tiers of service, without exception
Environmental harm resulting from negligence, overuse, or disregard is incompatible with Journey Morocco operations.
3. Natural Habitat Protection Standards
3.1 Sensitive Ecosystems
Journey Morocco recognizes Morocco’s deserts, oases, mountain ranges, forests, and coastal zones as ecologically sensitive environments.
Accordingly:
-
No off-road driving is permitted outside approved tracks or designated areas
-
No activity may damage vegetation, dunes, reefs, wetlands, or forest understory
-
No extraction, collection, or disturbance of natural materials (plants, stones, shells, fossils) is permitted
All route planning is designed to avoid erosion, habitat fragmentation, and biodiversity loss.
3.2 Desert and Dune Environments
In desert regions:
-
Vehicle movement is restricted to established routes
-
Camps must adhere to low-impact setup and full site restoration protocols
-
Waste must be removed entirely; no burial or burning is permitted
Desert ecosystems are treated as non-renewable environments requiring strict protection.
3.3 Mountain, Forest, and Rural Landscapes
In mountain and forest regions:
-
Trails must follow established paths
-
Group sizes may be limited to reduce soil compaction and disturbance
-
No activity may interfere with water sources, grazing patterns, or reforestation efforts
Journey Morocco avoids activities that contribute to deforestation, erosion, or watershed contamination.
3.4 Coastal and Marine Environments
In coastal and marine areas:
-
No anchoring or boating practices that damage seabeds or marine vegetation are permitted
-
Marine wildlife must not be approached, pursued, or encircled
-
No disposal of waste, fuel, or materials into marine environments is tolerated
Journey Morocco partners only with operators who comply with recognized marine-protection standards.
4. Waste, Resource Use, and Pollution Control
Journey Morocco enforces the following operational standards:
-
Single-use plastics are minimized wherever practicable
-
Waste is collected, separated, and removed in accordance with local regulations
-
No dumping, burning, or abandonment of waste is permitted
-
Water use is managed carefully in arid and rural regions
Partners must demonstrate responsible fuel handling, emissions management, and waste controls.
5. Carbon Awareness and Transport Practices
Journey Morocco acknowledges the environmental impact of transportation and tourism logistics.
Accordingly:
-
Route planning prioritizes efficiency and reduced redundancy
-
Local sourcing and regional routing are favored to minimize transport impact
-
Over-concentration of activities in sensitive areas is avoided
Journey Morocco does not represent itself as carbon-neutral unless supported by verified data.
6. Community and Conservation Alignment
Journey Morocco seeks to operate in alignment with:
-
Local conservation initiatives
-
Regional land-use regulations
-
Community-based environmental stewardship efforts
Where feasible, Journey Morocco supports conservation, reforestation, habitat restoration, and environmental education initiatives connected to the regions in which it operates.
7. Governance and Oversight
Oversight of this policy is assigned to the Independent Ethics, Welfare & Compliance Officer, who is authorized to:
-
Review environmental practices of partners
-
Suspend or terminate relationships that result in environmental harm
-
Modify or halt itineraries that pose ecological risk
This authority operates independently of sales and commercial considerations.
8. Enforcement and Corrective Action
Violations of this policy may result in:
-
Immediate suspension of activities
-
Mandatory corrective measures
-
Termination of partner relationships
-
Permanent exclusion for severe or repeated environmental harm
Environmental protection obligations are non-negotiable.
9. Training and Operational Guidance
Guides and operational staff receive training on:

Guest management in environmentally sensitive areas
Staff are authorized to intervene, reroute, or terminate activities to prevent environmental damage.
