Overview

Leave Casablanca behind and head north along the coast to Rabat, where Morocco slows down and straightens its collar. As the country’s capital, it’s composed by nature — wide streets, sea air, and a sense that things here are meant to function, not perform.

You’ll start with Rabat’s anchors: the Hassan Tower, unfinished but unmistakable, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, all clean lines and quiet ceremony. From there, the day opens up. White-and-blue lanes in the Kasbah of the Udayas lead toward the water, the Bou Regreg sliding past below, the Atlantic never far off. There’s time to move, to pause, to let the city’s proportions make sense.

By the end of the day, over a mouthwatering, traditional Moroccan feast, Rabat has usually done its work. It doesn’t charm loudly. It doesn’t rush you. It simply shows you how power, history, and daily life can coexist without friction — and why that makes it so easy to spend time here.
