Overview
Northern Morocco is defined by contrast, and this three-day journey leans into that rather than smoothing it out. Starting from Casablanca, you head north into landscapes and cities that operate at very different speeds — and for very different reasons.
Chefchaouen comes first. Set high in the Rif Mountains, it’s a town built for walking and wandering. The blue-washed streets aren’t there for show; they soften the light, cool the air, and slow everything down. Life here is domestic and close to the surface — laundry overhead, doors open, water running through Ras El Ma at the edge of town. You stay overnight in a riad near the centre, with time to experience Chefchaouen once day visitors have gone and the town settles back into itself.
Fès is the counterpoint. Older, denser, and far more complex, it’s a city organised around knowledge, craft, and belief. With a licensed local guide, you move through the medina not as a maze, but as a working system — neighbourhoods built around mosques, tanneries, workshops, and schools that have been operating for centuries. This is where Morocco’s intellectual and spiritual history is still very much alive, not curated or simplified.
Travel between places is comfortable and unhurried, with private transport throughout and nights spent in traditional riads chosen for their location rather than excess. Taken together, the journey offers balance: calm and compression, openness and intensity. It’s designed for travellers who want to understand northern Morocco as it is — not rush through it, and not have it explained away.
